1770s Purple and black Robe a la Francaise
Pattern: Simplicity 8578 (by American Duchess), with some alterations for my sisters body and lenght.
Fabric: 8 m of dusky lilac twill & 0,5 white cotton for lining. 1m black polyester “spider web” fabric.
Notion: 20 m of thin black lace, Thread, 5 m of thin cord for lacing skirt and back of gown. 4m of synthetic whalebone for the stomacher and for bodice lining. and 8 spiders for decoration.
How historical accurate: So so. The look of it is right but the fabric, if not counting the added spiders. the pattern and the construction technique (mostly by machine) are all modern.
Time: About 20 hours, over the course of 1 month.
Worn: October 2019 for photos.
Final thoughts: I’m so happy with the gown.
And even though there is some things I liked to have made differently I think it is spectacular, and it’s so fun to wear.
